Metcon takes sustainability very seriously in every aspect of our business. We purchase our raw material coils from certified SCI approved UK suppliers. The raw steel material purchased by Metcon has a high recycled content already. During the design and manufacturing process the light gauge steel frames are cut, notched and punched to a tolerance of less than 5 mm. There is no off cuts, no waste. The notching and punching of the 1.6 mm sheet material produces plates and washers. We use the plates and bend them to be used as angle brackets to aid roof trusses. The washers are used along with our steel screws that fix the whole frame together on site. So in effect we are a zero waste producer.
We understand site waste is a huge concern for all contractors today. With the use of BIM technology this is slowly being reduced to an all time lowest levels. But it still is not enough. We are going one step further where we guarantee no site waste from the construction of our framing products. Any waste that’s produced on site through cutting a roof into place, we bundle up this steel and our lorry driver collects this steel when he delivers new panels to site.
